LOCAL POLICE URGE CITIZENS TO LOCK VEHICLES

Police agencies across the Brazos Valley are reminding residents of the importance of locking their cars and their garages.

Reports of burglaries have been on the rise in Brenham and surrounding cities and counties, with authorities in areas like Bryan, La Grange, Navasota and Sealy all telling citizens to keep an eye out and take precautions.

Brenham Police Captain Lloyd Powell said, for whatever reason, burglary cases tend to spike in the summer.  He said all residents should try to remember to secure their vehicles, which will sometimes help secure the rest of their home.

Cpt. Powell urges everyone to take all the safety precautions they can.

Police are also reminding citizens that thieves are not just after what is inside the vehicle, as tires and rims are often a prime target.

Anyone who notices suspicious persons or activity in their neighborhoods are asked to call their local authorities.  They are also encouraged to keep any video surveillance footage they may have, in order to help link potential suspects with criminal activity.
