DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE READING WEDNESDAY AT WASHINGTON CO. COURTHOUSE

Members of the public are once again invited to take part in a local reading of one of America’s most historic documents.

Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m., citizens will be able to join in a reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Washington County Courthouse Gazebo.

The reading of the Declaration is an annual program that was started in 2010 by Houston attorney Robert Fickman, and is now sponsored by the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.  Organizers hope for all 254 counties to host readings each year, but anticipate 142 counties, including Washington County, to participate this year.

This year’s event will be led by Brenham lawyer Robbie Gail Charette.  Free pocket copies of the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence will be given to the first 100 people, courtesy of Charette’s law office.

Breakfast treats and coffee will be provided.  Charette said Washington County Judge John Durrenberger has been invited to speak at the program, but has not confirmed his availability.

Around ten volunteers are needed for the reading.  To learn more, or to volunteer, call 979-251-9099, or email rgc@charettelaw.com.
