BLUE BELL LOOKING INTO INCIDENT OF CUSTOMER TAMPERING WITH ICE CREAM
Blue Bell Ice Cream is currently investigating an incident of a customer tampering with a half gallon of ice cream.
In a tweet posted Saturday and shared with Blue Bell’s Twitter account, a video shows a woman in an unnamed grocery store opening a half gallon of Tin Roof ice cream, licking the ice cream in the carton, replacing the lid, and putting the carton back in the freezer.
Blue Bell responded on Twitter and on its website thanking the poster for the report, which Blue Bell says has been forwarded to law enforcement, retailers, and social media platforms.
In its statement, Blue Bell says it flips half gallons upside down during production, and sends them to a hardening room where the ice cream freezes to the lid, creating a natural seal as the lids freeze to the carton. The company says, therefore, “any attempt at opening the product should be noticeable”.
Blue Bell goes on to say it will “continue to monitor this situation”, and “this type of incident will not be tolerated”.
Blue Bell's full statement on its website:
“We want to thank our consumers for alerting us to the recent food tampering incident. We take this issue very seriously and are currently working with law enforcement, retail partners and social media platforms. This type of incident will not be tolerated.
Food safety is a top priority, and we work hard to provide a safe product and maintain the highest level of confidence from our consumers.
During production, our half gallons are flipped upside down and sent to a hardening room where the ice cream freezes to the lid creating a natural seal. The lids are frozen tightly to the carton. Any attempt at opening the product should be noticeable.
We will continue to monitor this situation.”
