Smidt, riding his late father’s horse Chico, won the title with a time of 7.3 seconds.

Smidt also placed in all four go rounds before the final.  He finished fourth with a 9.5 on Day One, split the round on Day Two with a 7.3, tied for second on Day Three with a 7.3, and placed second on Day Four with a 7.9.  The top ten finishers from the go rounds moved on to Showdown Sunday.

Smidt is no stranger to the accolades, taking home the tie-down roping title this past December at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.
