BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO DISCUSS TAX RATE, PUBLIC MEETING DATE FOR BUDGET
The Burton School Board will meet this (Monday) afternoon to consider the proposed tax rate, and a public meeting date to discuss the budget.
The board will present projected tax rate figures at tonight’s meeting for discussion. The budget will be addressed at the board’s regular meeting on August 19th.
The district’s tax rate last year was $1.17 per $100 valuation, made up of $1.04 for maintenance and operations and 13 cents for debt services. The rate has remained the same since 2011, when it went up one cent from the previous year’s rate.
Last year’s budget had a deficit of just under $214,000, but the difference was made up via fund balance. At the time the budget passed last year, Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy said the district also expected a raise in funds from the Texas Education Agency, based on student enrollment.
Also at tonight’s meeting, the board will consider approval of the teacher appraisal calendar and the 2019-20 compensation plan.
The board will meet this evening at 5:30 p.m., in the Burton ISD Administration Office.
