FIRST HEARING ON WASHINGTON CO. TAX RATE TUESDAY

Washington County Commissioners will hold the first of two public hearings on the county’s proposed property tax rate Tuesday.

The county is proposing a rate of 49.5 cents per $100 valuation. The rate is lower than last year’s rate of 51.7 cents per $100.  However, the lower rate is still expected to bring the county an additional $2 million in tax revenue—nearly a 12 percent increase over last year’s budget—because of higher property valuations.

According to numbers from the Washington County Appraisal District presented to commissioners on August 20th, the average home value in the county rose from $184,000 to just under $200,000, an 8.48 percent increase.  The average household’s taxes are expected to go up $36.70, or 3.85 percent.

Also in court, commissioners will consider:

  • A recommendation to appoint a Director of Information Technology.
  • Proclaiming September 3rd through October 25th as the official period for the Washington County READ.
  • Formal notices from AMP NGL Pipelines, LLC, for a 12-foot natural gas pipeline on Boehnemann Road, Beckermann Road, and Adamek Road.
  • Formal notice from Verdun Oil Company for a four-inch Frac water line encased with six-inch steel on Brandt Road in Precinct Four.
  • Formal notice for a road bore for a new service meter on Old Navasota Road by Corix Utilities, Inc. in Precinct One.
  • A subdivision variance request for a land division fronting Old Chappell Hill Road in Precinct Two.
  • Approval of a right-of-way permit for the Washington County Fair trail ride to be held on East Blue Bell Road.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., at the Washington County Courthouse.
