The Texas Arts and Music Festival has announced this year’s mural artist.

Helena Martin of Austin will create a large-scale mural during the fourth annual festival in downtown Brenham, set for October 18th through the 20th.

Martin said her design for this year’s festival poster was inspired by native birds and flowers, two enduring symbols of Texas. She said she’s honored and excited to be participating in the festival, as she enjoys the intimacy of smaller towns.

In order to make room for the new mural, one mural will need to be covered up, and the space prepped for fresh paint. The mural to be replaced will be announced at a later date.  Festival Board Chairman Brad Stufflebeam said, while the murals “bring pops of color and whimsy downtown”, the festival’s goal is to rotate artwork to bring in new visitors and “create an ever changing landscape downtown”.

The free festival features live music Friday night through Sunday afternoon, along with an art village, pop-up art galleries, food trucks, and craft beer. It will showcase Martin and other artists, in addition to the vendors and musical acts, at no cost to the public.

The Texas Arts and Music Festival is a non-profit organization made possible by generous sponsors. It is focused on supporting art education and bringing visual and performing arts to Brenham for the community and surrounding areas to enjoy.
