NO PUBLIC COMMENT AT BLINN’S SECOND TAX RATE HEARING

The Blinn Board of Trustees held a brief and quiet public hearing on the College’s proposed tax rate Thursday.

No one from the public came forward to offer comment on Blinn’s proposed rate of 5.6 cents per $100 valuation.

The new rate, while more than the effective rate of 5.28 cents per $100, is less than last year’s rate of 6.01 cents per $100.  It equates to about $8.75 in monthly taxes on the average Washington County home, valued at $199,906.

The College expects to generate $2.1 million in tax revenue from the new rate, in order to support maintenance and operations at the Brenham Campus.

While Blinn serves a 13-county area, only Washington County resides within the College’s taxing district.  Property tax revenue covers roughly a third of the Brenham campus’s maintenance and operations costs, while Brenham campus student tuition and fees cover the other two-thirds.  By law, property tax revenue cannot be used to fund campuses outside of the taxing district.

The board is expected to vote on the new rate at its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, at 5:30 p.m.

  1. No body came because it would not have made a difference. Taxes will continue to grow bigger as the school gets bigger and Washington county residents will pay the higher taxes till they have to sell their properties and be renters to some wealthy out of towner.

    1. Yep I agree! This is there big plan! Urbanizing the town, pushing poor out of down, Increasing, food, water, property, energy taxes, allowing outsude entities call the shots and decreasing the quality of life of the population. Just wait until these “viruses” force the whole population to get mandatory vaccines. This is about MONEY,POWER,CONTROL,AND,
