GRAND OPENING OF WASHINGTON VFD’S NEW STATION SATURDAY

The Washington Volunteer Fire Department is preparing to officially open its new station in between Brenham and Navasota.

Saturday morning, the department will hold a grand opening of the 12,600 square foot facility on Highway 105.

Clyde Miller, Chief and one of the founding members of the Washington Volunteer Fire Department, said the department has been operating out of the new building for nearly a year. He said it should provide the space and resources necessary to meet the needs of Washington County citizens.

Miller said the department will still use its original location on FM 1155, which was dedicated in 1979.

Miller said this three-year-project was completed using nothing but community donations and volunteer work. He said the building should be able to provide a comfortable environment for volunteers, and eventually, paid firefighters.

Part of the 12,600 square foot facility includes 1,300 square feet for a full Washington County EMS crew. Miller said the building can be used for when disaster strikes.

Saturday’s event will allow visitors to meet with firefighters, enjoy snacks, and check out firefighter and paramedic equipment. Opening ceremonies are set for 10 a.m., with a ribbon cutting at 10:30 a.m.
