“TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD” OPENS THURSDAY NIGHT AT UNITY THEATRE
Unity Theatre in Brenham raises the curtains tonight (Thursday) on the opening act of its 25th Anniversary season.
Starting tonight and playing for three weeks on the Main Stage is the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama To Kill a Mockingbird, published by Harper Lee and adapted by Christopher Sergel.
Set in 1935, To Kill a Mockingbird tells the story of Scout and her brother Jem, as they are being raised in a small southern town by their widowed father, Atticus Finch, and their housekeeper, Calpurnia. After a young black man is accused of a terrible crime, lawyer Atticus defends him in a trial that sends violent waves through the town.
The play opens tonight with a preview performance, which includes a talk-back with the cast and crew following the act. The show runs each weekend through Sunday, October 13th, with show times of 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 4 p.m. on Sundays.
Tickets are $27 and they are reserved; however, student tickets are always $15, and any unsold seats are $15 at 15 minutes prior to show time. Director Kate Revnell-Smith will host a chat prior to the show on the evening of Saturday, October 5th.
