BODY OF DROWNING VICTIM AT LAKE SOMERVILLE FOUND, IDENTIFIED

Authorities in Washington County have found the body of a fisherman reported missing Tuesday at Lake Somerville.

The body of 69-year-old James Carpenter of College Station was located at around 11 a.m. this (Wednesday) morning by the Texas Game Warden Dive Team and the Rocky Creek Volunteer Fire Department.  Carpenter’s body was recovered after it was found at the bottom of the lake by using GPS and side scanning sonar.

Authorities were originally called out to the lake just before 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.  According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, a caller had advised that Carpenter and another man were having engine trouble with their boat, when Carpenter fell into the water and did not resurface.

Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies, EMS officials, constables, Rocky Creek volunteer firefighters, DPS, and Texas Game Wardens all assisted in the search.  An autopsy on Carpenter’s body will be performed.
