WASHINGTON CO. READ RECEPTION, PERFORMANCE FRIDAY AT UNITY THEATRE

A full day of activities is set for tomorrow’s (Friday) Washington County READ event.

This year’s featured READ book is “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind”, by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer.  The book is a true story about Kamkwamba, a teenager who built a wind turbine from discarded materials to help bring electricity and running water to his small village in Malawi.

First, co-author Mealer will meet with 5th and 6th grade students at Brenham Middle School throughout the school day, giving them the opportunity to visit with a published author.

A reception at Unity Theatre will follow at 5:30 p.m., with a dramatic reading of excerpts of the book at 6 p.m.  Mealer will be on hand to sign books and speak with guests, and books will be available for purchase.

This year’s event is Lifetime Learning’s 11th anniversary for Washington County READ.  For more information, go to www.lifetimelearningbrenham.org.
