BRENHAM PLANNING AND ZONING TO DISCUSS ALLOWING RV PARKS IN CERTAIN ZONING DISTRICTS

The Brenham Planning and Zoning Commission will meet Monday to hold discussion on potentially allowing recreational vehicle (RV) parks within city limits.

The Commission will meet in workshop to discuss allowing RV parks to be developed and operated in the R-3 (Manufactured Home Residential) and B-1 (Local Business/Residential Mixed Use) zoning districts.

City Manager James Fisher said the city’s Development Services Department was recently approached on the matter by a prospective developer looking to build an RV park.  However, current city ordinance does not specifically mention recreational vehicle parks, thus they are prohibited within city limits.

Fisher said amending city ordinance to allow RV parks may benefit the city by providing “the growing sector of recreational vehicle vacationers a place to stay within the city limits”.  He said doing this could help broaden the city’s tourism appeal, while also increasing sales and property tax opportunities.

Since the item is limited to workshop discussion, no action can be taken.  Staff are still looking for feedback on the item from the Commission and, pending approval, will bring the item back for consideration in November.

Also at Monday’s meeting, the Commission will consider preliminary and final plats for:

  • Six acres in the Southwest Industrial Park, for industrial use.
  • 3.8 acres in the Scheel Division on the west side of Burleson Street, for single family residential use.
  • 20.8 acres in the Anton subdivision on Tigerpoint Road, near the intersection of FM 332 and Tigerpoint Road, for residential and agricultural use.
  • And two tracts totaling 2.1 acres of the Zippy J – Brenham subdivision, at the southeast corner of the intersection of South Blue Bell Road and Old Chappell Hill Road, and Harrell Road.  The two tracts would be used for industrial and manufactured home residential use.

The Commission is recommending approval of each of the preliminary and final plats.

The Commission will meet Monday evening at 5:15 p.m., at Brenham City Hall.
