TWO ACCIDENTS IN TWO HOURS INVOLVING 18-WHEELERS ON HIGHWAY 36 TUESDAY

Traffic on Highway 36 near Brenham was backed up for several hours Tuesday afternoon, following a pair of accidents involving 18-wheelers.

Authorities were first called out just after 3:15 p.m. to the 3800 block of Highway 36 North, near the Kulow Chiropractic and Wellness Center.  According to Highway Patrol Sergeant Alease Wilson, a Chevy Camaro was headed southbound when it lost control, drove into the opposite lane, and struck an 18-wheeler headed north.

Both sides of the roadway were shut down, as crews cleared the wreckage and leaking diesel.

Units were then called to another accident in the southbound lanes of Highway 36 near Affleck Road, just before 5 p.m.  According to Wilson, an 18-wheeler had slowed to a stop for a school bus that was dropping off students, when it was hit from behind by another vehicle.

The right lane of southbound traffic was temporarily shut down.

According to Wilson, no one suffered life-threatening injuries in either of the accidents.  The bus in the second accident was not struck.
