WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER RESOLUTION OPPOSING LOCATION OF PROPOSED OIL TANK FARM
Washington County Commissioners will vote on a resolution Tuesday opposing the proposed location of new oil development in the northeast part of the county.
The resolution concerns the joint venture recently revealed by Red Oak Pipeline, Plains All American Pipeline, and Phillips 66, who held a public hearing Thursday in Brenham. The companies are looking to build a crude oil tank farm on Palestine Road in the Sandy Hill community.
At the hearing, both County Judge John Durrenberger and Commissioner Don Koester—along with dozens of county residents—were vocal in not wanting the tank farm at the companies’ proposed location.
Durrenberger said he has informed Red Oak representatives of the county’s upcoming vote on the resolution.
Durrenberger noted that this resolution does not shut down the possibility of the companies still bringing the new oil activity to the county. He said, if approved, it would simply declare the county’s opposition to the development in that area. He added that the companies are “actively looking” for another location.
Also in court, commissioners will:
- Hear presentation from Washington County Veterans Association President Ben Seeker on the Veterans Park.
- Act upon allocation of the District Attorney’s fund balance as 8/31/19 between Washington County and Burleson County, pursuant to Senate Bill 891.
- Consider approval of the 2020 Washington County holiday schedule.
- Consider community service contracts with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and the Washington County Healthy Living Association.
- Hold workshop session on the county’s employee compensation plan.
- Discuss formal notices from Corix Utilities-NEWCWS for: a 4-inch road bore for a water line and new service meter within county right-of-way on Wellmann Road in Precinct One; a 2-inch road bore for an existing service meter within county right-of-way on Prairie Hill Road in Precincts One and Three; and a 2-inch road bore for a new service meter within county right-of-way on Old Independence Road in Precinct One.
Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
