ANNEXATION DRAWS CONTINUED OPPOSITION AT BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL PUBLIC HEARING
Washington County residents continue to voice their disapproval of Brenham’s proposed plans for annexation.
At the Brenham City Council’s second public hearing on the matter Thursday, several residents spoke against the annexation of roughly 195 acres of land on the east side of Farmers Road—between FM 389 and Old Mill Creek Road—and the north side of Old Mill Creek Road—between the current city limit line and Jackson Creek.
Councilmembers were presented a petition from the ten homeowners living in the Country Place West subdivision, located in the 195-acre tract. In the petition, homeowners declared they were “unanimously” and “vehemently” in opposition of being annexed.
Local veteran Don Holley was one of the residents who spoke to the council, asking on behalf of residents in the Country Place West subdivision for the city to leave them alone.

At last week’s council meeting, City Manager James Fisher recommended holding off on pursuing the sub-195 acre tract until next year, saying city officials needed more time to visit with residents and better understand costs involved.
However, one citizen, Robert Weiss, requested that the council stop considering the tract altogether, and asked why the city was looking into this land when there are other pieces of non-annexed land that are more populated. Mayor Pro Tem Andrew Ebel said, when the tract is discussed again next year, his question would be answered.
The city is still looking to move forward with annexing 44 acres in the Southwest Industrial Park, bounded by Industrial Boulevard, FM 332, and FM 389; and 6/10ths of an acre at Scenic Estates, along the west side of Old Masonic Road.
The council will next address annexation at its meeting on December 5th, with the first reading of the annexation ordinance.
