BLINN THEATRE TO PRESENT ‘ROBIN HOOD’ THIS WEEK

Performances scheduled for Nov. 21-24 at O’Donnell Performing Arts Center

The Blinn College-Brenham Theatre Arts Program will stage the swashbuckling “The Adventures of Robin Hood” at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center, with shows beginning Thursday, Nov. 21.

Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 21 and 22, and at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 23 and 24. Preview performances for elementary schools will be held Thursday and Friday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Brad Nies, Blinn-Brenham Theatre Arts Director, said “The Adventures of Robin Hood” is family entertainment.

“It’s a terrific show for the whole family,” Nies said. “It’s kind of a swashbuckling adventure. It’s got sword fighting, it’s got romance, it’s got heroes and villains.

“There’s humorous parts, there’s serious parts … there’s just something for everybody.”

Anthony Maza, who has the title role of Robin Hood, said playing the iconic figure is exciting.

“He has a good place in his heart for justice,” said Maza. “Originally he’s just doing it to make money to get by with his band of thieves, and then he comes across Lady Marian Fitzwalter and he sees her in trouble. He already had a sense of justice for the people of Nottingham, but I feel like Marian kind of gave him more of an incentive for more justice.”

Jacqueline Andrade, who plays Lady Marian, called the story of Robin Hood “a classic.”

“Everyone should know Robin Hood,” Andrade said. “And if they don’t, they should come to this play.”

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, children, and senior citizens. They are available at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice or by calling 979 830-4024.

Upcoming Blinn College-Brenham Theatre Arts performances will include “Macbeth” on Feb. 20-23 and “Tuesdays with Morrie” on April 30-May 3.
