GAS PRICES SLIGHTLY CHEAPER FOR THANKSGIVING
As millions of Texans hit the road for the Thanksgiving holiday, gas prices statewide have not seen much change from the past week.
The statewide average for a gallon of unleaded fuel is $2.24, according to AAA Texas’ Weekend Gas Watch. That price is a penny cheaper per gallon than this day last week, but three cents more expensive than this day last year.
Meanwhile, in Brenham, the average sits slightly higher at $2.26, with a low of $2.08 and a high of $2.46.
AAA Texas projects more than 3.8 million Texans will drive at least 50 miles away from home this Thanksgiving, the second highest amount since AAA began forecasting Thanksgiving holiday travel in 2000.
AAA considers the busiest days to travel during Thanksgiving week to be Tuesday night, Wednesday evening, and coming back Sunday afternoon and evening. The best day for travel is Thanksgiving Day itself.
Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Odessa are paying the most on average per gallon at $2.48, while drivers in San Antonio and Victoria are paying the least at $2.16.
Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.58, one cent less than this day a week ago, but six cents more than this day a year ago.
