WASHINGTON CO. COURTHOUSE LIGHTS UP FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Hundreds of Christmas lights flickered on for the first time Wednesday night at the Washington County Courthouse, to celebrate the coming of the holiday season.

Several local officials, along with dozens of other community members, came to the steps of the courthouse to see it come alive with holiday splendor.

Brenham Mayor Milton Tate and Washington County Judge John Durrenberger both addressed the crowd, wishing them a happy and safe Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas.

There was even an appearance from Santa, who encouraged the children present to be good for the holidays.

Plenty of children came up to take pictures with Santa while he was in town.

Last week, work crews raised and mounted a new 50-foot counter balanced flagpole onto the courthouse.  The new flagpole allows for about twice the amount of Christmas lights than the old radio tower previously on the courthouse roof.

After the courthouse lit up in holiday splendor, several families took pictures by some of the Christmas trees surrounding the courthouse.
