COLLEGE STATION POLICE: ZIP TIES ON CARS COULD BE USED AS POTENTIAL TRAFFICKING, THEFT TACTIC
Police in College Station are cautioning the public during this holiday shopping season, following a social media post from someone who discovered zip ties had been placed on their car while shopping at the Post Oak Mall.
Police say the post showed the person’s car had zip ties attached to the front grille outside the mall earlier this month. The post also warned of the zip ties potentially being a tactic used by those involved in human trafficking to kidnap distracted drivers and passengers.
College Station police say, while they have not had any kidnappings or attempted kidnappings reported, and they are not sure of the possible connection between the zip ties and human traffickers, the technique could certainly be used by potential thieves to create a distraction in order to steal property.
Police remind citizens to always be aware of their surroundings, especially during the shopping season, and to report any suspicious activity.
