SHIRLEY HARRIS-JACKSON RUNNING FOR WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONER PRECINCT ONE

A woman with over 30 years of experience in Washington D.C. has announced her bid for Washington County Commissioner.
Shirley Harris-Jackson is running for County Commissioner of Precinct One as a Democrat. Jackson will face the winner of March’s Republican primary between incumbent Don Koester and challenger Rick Seeker in November.
Jackson, born in Washington County and a graduate of Prairie View A&M University, took an internship upon graduation with former U.S. Congressman Graham Purcell, Jr. Her internship led to a 32-year career as a purchasing agent at the U.S. House of Representatives. She moved back to Brenham in 2005 to be with family.
Jackson said she is running for County Commissioner because she wants to see change in the system, and a break from the status quo. She also said, with her campaign, she hopes to bring up representation with different groups, along with problems in different areas that she says are not addressed.
Jackson said she has been around politics her whole life, giving her a lot of experience with budgets and the inner workings of government. She said she understands that taxes do need to go up in order to support government operation, but the tax hikes need to be handled appropriately.
Early voting for the March 3, 2020 primary begins on February 18th.
