A Brenham man is in custody after a high-speed chase and a crash near downtown Brenham.

According to police, they tried to stop a vehicle for a routine equipment violation, just after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, near South Blue Bell Road and Victory Lane, just north of U.S. Highway 290.

The vehicle, reportedly driven by 28-year old Armando Prieto Jr. of Brenham, refused to stop, which led to a police pursuit, which included: Brenham Police, Washington County Sheriff’s deputies, and Texas DPS troopers.

After a nearly-eight mile chase, police say Prieto’s vehicle crashed into a car in the 300 block of North Market Street, near the Brenham Post Office and First Baptist Church.

According to police, Prieto tried to flee the scene on foot, but was quickly taken into custody.
