WRONG-WAY DRIVER KILLED ON I-10 NEAR SEALY IDENTIFIED AS OFF-DUTY HOUSTON POLICE OFFICER

  

A woman killed in a wrong-way crash this (Thursday) morning on I-10 near Sealy has been identified as an off-duty Houston police officer.

According to a statement from DPS, 32-year-old Gizelle Solorio of Katy was driving the wrong way in the westbound lanes of I-10 just before 6:30 a.m., when her Toyota Tacoma collided with an 18-wheeler.  The accident occurred approximately ten miles east of Sealy, east of Mlcak Road.

Solorio was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the 18-wheeler, 65-year-old Guy Pearson of La Feria, was uninjured, according to authorities.

According to the Houston Police Department, Solorio joined the department in May 2017, and was assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division.  It is not known why Solorio was driving in the wrong direction.
