FORMER BRENHAM ISD SUPERINTENDENT, PRINCIPAL HAROLD EIKENHORST DIES

  

A former Brenham ISD teacher, principal, and superintendent has died.

Harold Eikenhorst died Tuesday in Brenham.  He was 93 years old.

Eikenhorst attended Brenham schools, later joining the First Calvary Division of the U.S. Army.  He served in the south pacific on Luzon Island and in the Army of Occupation in Japan from late 1944-46.

Following his service, Eikenhorst attended Blinn College and Texas A&M, graduating with a degree in Agricultural Education.  He taught agriculture at Midway and Brenham High Schools, before teaching science and math at Brenham High School.

Eikenhorst served as the Brenham Elementary School principal, as well as the assistant superintendent and superintendent of Brenham ISD, until his retirement in 1974.  After retiring, he sold real estate and worked as a rancher.

Visitation will be held tomorrow (Friday) from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel.  Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville.
