FISHER: CITY OF BRENHAM “EXTREMELY CLOSE” TO NAMING FINALIST FOR POLICE CHIEF

Former Brenham Police Chief Allwin Barrow. Barrow retired from the city on November 22nd.

The City of Brenham expects it will soon conclude its search for a new police chief.

According to City Manager James Fisher, the city received approximately 39 applications for the position, which was vacated in November when previous Police Chief Allwin Barrow retired.

Fisher said one of the applications received was from a finalist in the city’s previous search for a chief, which resulted in the hiring of Barrow. He said the city is still talking to the candidate and gauging his interest in the position, but that it may extend an offer soon.

Fisher said the city is “extremely close” to naming a finalist for the position, and hopes it will be able to make an announcement within next week, if not sooner.

Fisher said one of the biggest factors in this search was not merely finding the best candidate available, but the right fit for the job.

Interim Police Chief Rusty Pancoast speaks to the council at its meeting on December 5th. Pancoast has served as the city's interim police chief since the retirement of Allwin Barrow.

According to Fisher, no one from within the Brenham Police Department applied for the position.

Fisher thanked Interim Police Chief Rusty Pancoast for coming out of retirement to serve again as the city’s interim police chief during this time. He said Pancoast has been very professional, and is “an even better person than he is a chief”.

  2. why can’t Brenham keep a police chief but for a few years I remember when we had chief Arthur Sternberg he was chief for 37 years but that was back in the good old days before politicians had everything messed up
