WASHINGTON CO. 4-H PARTICIPATES IN DISTRICT 11 4-H FOOD SHOW AND FOOD CHALLENGE

Several Washington County 4-Hers recently traveled to Victoria for the annual District 11 4-H Food Show and Food Challenge.
The competitions were held Saturday at the Victoria College Emerging Technology Complex.
Teams in the 4-H Food Challenge were tasked with creating and preparing dishes using a predetermined set of ingredients, then making a presentation to judges in regards to food preparation, safety, nutrition, and costs.
Meanwhile, participants in the 4-H Food Show were encouraged to explore aspects of food preparation, safety, and creative recipes, while also participating in food project activities and tours.
Three teams competed from Washington County in the Food Challenge competition, out of 29 Junior/Intermediate teams and 12 Senior teams, with a total of 149 youths participating.

Junior/Intermediate Team 1st Place Fruit & Vegetable Category – “The 4 Amigos” – Madison Moran, Dawson Moran, Haylie Niemeyer, Hailey Rudloff
Junior/Intermediate Team - Main Dish Category – “The Poachers” –
Calvin Wunderlich, Nolan Wunderlich, Brazos Supak, Matthew Philips
Senior Team 1st Place Bread & Cereal Category – “Bulls Eye Cookers” –
Clayton Boeker, Rowdy Weidemann, Adrie Niemeyer
The senior team qualifies for the Texas 4-H Round Up competition to be held in June at Texas A&M University.

For the Food Show, there were 91 4-Hers participating, who entered dishes in four main categories and were judged by a panel of judges. Washington County participants and winners include:
Junior – Logan Boeker – Main Dish category – 2nd Place
Intermediate – Madison Moran – Fruits and Vegetables category – 1st Place
Senior – Clayton Boeker – Main Dish category – 1st Place and qualifier for State 4-H Food Show in June
