COLORADO CO. MURDER SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER PURSUIT THROUGH FAYETTE CO.
A busy weekend for Fayette County law enforcement included the pursuit of a Colorado County murder suspect, breaking up a fight at the Schulenburg Whataburger, and a pair of intoxication arrests.
Sunday, Fayette County Communications advised Sheriff’s Deputies to be on the lookout for a stolen pickup out of Colorado County, which was being driven by a homicide suspect. Shortly after receiving the information, deputies saw the suspect’s vehicle driving on Highway 90 in Flatonia.
Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle in the 2000 block of East Old Hallettsville Road, but it fled at high speed. Deputies pursued the vehicle into Lavaca County, where it drove through a fence on County Road 257, and the suspect fled on foot. During the foot pursuit, the suspect failed to comply with orders and threatened deputies that he was carrying a weapon. After a lengthy foot pursuit, the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Steven Allen Moyer of Glidden, was taken into custody after being tased.

Assisting in the arrest were Flatonia, Schulenburg, and Shiner police, along with the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office.

Other happenings this weekend included on Saturday, when a deputy was called to assist Schulenburg police at the scene of a large fight in progress in the Whataburger parking lot. During the disturbance, a Schulenburg police officer was attempting to arrest a subject, when the deputy was assaulted by another subject on scene. The subject, 29-year-old Dominique Ornales of San Antonio, was arrested and charged with Interference with Public Duties, Assault on a Public Servant, and Resisting Arrest/Search or Transport.

On Friday, deputies were dispatched to a disturbance in progress in a vehicle coming into Fayette County on Highway 71, from Bastrop County. The vehicle in question was found and stopped, and after investigation, it was determined that both the driver and passenger of the vehicle were intoxicated. 37-year-old Cipriano Campos of Austin was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, while 41-year-old Maria Cames of Austin was arrested for Public Intoxication.
