WORK BEGINS MONDAY AT LITTLE SANDY CREEK CROSSING ON BURLESON STREET

Road crews begin several months of work today (Monday) at the Little Sandy Creek crossing on Burleson Street in Brenham.

The work will take place at the crossing in the 1900 block of Burleson Street, between Benton Drive and Blue Bell Road.  Work will involve removing the existing corrugated culverts, guardrail, and roadway.  A new bridge structure and roadway will be added to improve the current issues caused by flooding in 2016 and Hurricane Harvey in 2017.

Public Works Director Dane Rau said these improvements will make this area safer for the general public and allow for better flow during major rain events.  The project is contracted to Angel Brothers Enterprises for $1.07 million.

The closure is expected to last roughly four to five months, if weather conditions are favorable.  The city expects to complete the project in mid-May.

A detour around the construction area will use Lounge Road, Business 36, and Blue Bell Road.  The road will be closed to thru traffic, but local traffic can enter for access to residences from the south side of the construction area.

Residents are encouraged to call the City of Brenham at 979-337-7200 with any questions concerning the closure.

  1. Is this the same crossing that was closed for months and months several years ago (west of the tracks and upstream of Holt Park) while the new culverts were installed?
