Marsha Burnett-Webster will run as a Democrat in the Democratic Primary on March 3rd.  A career educator with over 25 years of experience, Webster says Texans should have an “Education First” philosophy for public school students.  She says members of the SBOE should prioritize the education of students, and set aside their personal or political agendas.  She also says teachers need to be allowed to teach, and not be focused on standardized testing.

A graduate of Brenham High School, Webster received her Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts from Prairie View A&M University. She then received a Master of Education from Prairie View A&M, and a Doctor of Education from California Coast University.

Webster has been a vocational and technology public school teacher, with appropriate state certifications, at middle and high schools in Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia, New York, and Canada. She has also held several state-level certifications in public school administration, serving as dean of students at a public high school in New York.  After her husband, Cecil Webster, retired as a colonel in the U.S. Army, she returned to Texas and served as assistant manager of enrollment services at Blinn College in Brenham.

Afterwards, Webster developed and published school curricula for the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts in Atlanta, Georgia. Now retired, Webster involves herself in political and community engagements that focus on children and public education.

SBOE District 10 includes Washington, Austin, Bastrop, Bell, Burleson, Burnet, Falls, Fayette, Freestone, Lee, Leon, Limestone, Madison, Milam, Robertson, Waller, and Williamson Counties, as well as part of Travis County.
