ASPIRING MUSICIANS TO PERFORM SATURDAY AT BLINN IN YOUNG PIANIST COMPETITION
Thirty of the state’s top young pianists will showcase their talents tomorrow (Saturday) at Blinn College in Brenham.
The 18th Annual Young Pianist Competition will be held tomorrow at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center.
Event founder John Dujka said this competition will see performances from some of the state’s best young musicians.
Participants will be divided into four age divisions: grades 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12. 5th and 6th graders will perform at 8:30 a.m., followed by 7th and 8th graders at 9:30 a.m., 9th and 10th graders at 11:50 a.m., and 11th and 12th graders at 2 p.m.
The top four finalists will perform two memorized pieces of music of different styles at 3 p.m. Awards and trophies will be given to the top finishers, and music scholarships will be offered to deserving high school juniors and seniors interested in attending Blinn College.
The public is invited to attend, and entry is free. Dujka said the audience can expect these pianists to put on a wonderful display of ageless music.
This year’s competition is dedicated to the memory of the late Blinn College alumnus and trustee Dr. Henry Boehm. Boehm served on the Blinn Board of Trustees for 34 years, and he and his siblings donated the Bosendorfer grand piano and helped make the Young Pianists Competition possible.
