PUBLIC MEETING WEDNESDAY ON POSSIBLE CREATION OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION ORDINANCE IN BRENHAM
Brenham residents are invited tonight (Wednesday) to give their input on the city’s potential creation of a historic preservation ordinance.
The public meeting is set for tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library.
Tonight’s meeting will feature a video produced and edited by resident Mary Thornhill, who spoke to public officials and property owners in area cities that have preservation ordinances. Her conversations with them, discussing why having an ordinance in place is beneficial, will be shown in the video.
Talks on the ordinance began last year, when Thornhill presented her video to the Planning and Zoning Commission in August. At that meeting, she explained the ordinance is not meant to be a set of restrictions, but rather a guideline for cities to preserve a historic look and feel.
Also at tonight’s meeting, Lorelei Willett, coordinator of the Certified Local Government Program of the Texas Historical Commission, will discuss her program and preservation ordinances.
There will also be discussion on setting up a timeline for establishing an ordinance. Last month, City of Brenham Tourism and Marketing Director Jennifer Eckermann told KWHI the city’s goal is to have a plan to present for public input sometime this summer.
