DPS OPERATION IN NAVASOTA INVOLVES I.C.E. AGENTS
The Texas Department of Public Safety says an operation in Grimes County was targeting commercial and non-commercial vehicle equipment violators.
However, the DPS has also confirmed multiple suspects have been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
More than a dozen state troopers were in Grimes County, Thursday, conducting the joint task force operation.
DPS Sergeant Jimmy Morgan says they were conducting a task force operation in both Brazos and Grimes Counties, identifying vehicles and drivers who may be in violation of state laws or federal commercial vehicle regulations.
Morgan says it is policy to reach out to federal immigration officers if troopers have reasonable suspicion of a person unlawfully in the United States. He says because of that, ICE was on standby for Thursday's operation.
The Navasota Police Department and Grimes County Sheriff's Office did not assist with the operation.
KBTX-TV in Bryan has reported numerous people were seen being handcuffed and placed in a white van.
ICE has not commented on the operation.
Morgan says the number of citations given out to drivers is unknown at this time.
Outstanding job, don’t stop now , many junk gravel trucks being driven by illegals with fake credentials that have no regard for safety ,
No one believes this was for “equipment violations”. It was an illegal immigrant trap, why else would ICE be “on standby”.
Whether you are pro or con on this issue isn’t the point. Just call it what it is, instead of pretending you’re looking for “equipment violations”.
This is good to see, I see so many commercial vehicles that appear to be in obvious violation of commercial motor vehicle laws. I am glad to see these laws being enforced, It is a plus that they are ensuring that the drivers are legal to drive and operate these vehicles.
