The first phase of the Veterans Honor Park, being built at 198 North Montgomery Street next to the Giddings City Park, has begun.  The phase involves construction of a monument, flag poles, and at least ten walls engraved with the names of roughly 3,000 veterans.

Cost estimates for the first phase total nearly $150,000, not including an estimated $8,330 for each memorial wall, containing veterans’ first and last names.

The project has been assisted with grants of $20,000 from Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative and $5,000 from the Lehman Foundation.  In addition, the First National Bank of Giddings is donating $20,000 to raise eight flag poles, representing the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and POW/MIA U.S. and Texas.

The Lee County TX Veterans Association is organizing the project.  Donations to the project can be made at the First National Bank of Giddings.
