CHAPPELL HILL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE NAMES 2019 MAN, WOMAN, BUSINESS OF YEAR

  

Some of Chappell Hill’s outstanding citizens and businesses were recognized Friday night at the Chappell Hill Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet.

Edward A. Smith, Jr. and Dottie Schaer were recognized as Chappell Hill’s 2019 Man and Woman of the Year.

Smith has served as the President of Chappell Hill Bank for over 35 years, and has strongly supported the youth of Washington County through the Washington County Fair and public and private schools. He has also supported efforts of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Bazar, the Chappell Hill Historical Society, the Chappell DAR, the Chappell Hill Chamber of Commerce, and the Atkinson Cemetery.

Schaer, honored as the Washington County Woman of the Year in 2018, has served as a board member for the Volunteer Services Council of the Brenham State Supported Living Center, and as a board member for the Margaret E. Blizzard Senior Activity Center. She also volunteers to put together the Chappell Hill 4th of July parade and sponsors the “World Famous Marching Kazoo Band”.  In 2006, then-Governor Rick Perry awarded her the “Yellow Rose of Texas”, an award given to Texas women who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer and community services.

Meanwhile, the Chappell Hill Garden Club was honored as the town’s 2019 Business of the Year. The club’s members regularly perform beautification efforts throughout town, while also putting together events such as the Christmas Home Tour.
