A Grimes County man under indictment for child pornography possession was found guilty Friday by a jury.
(Grimes Co. Jail)
Wade Harrell Thomson was found guilty on all ten counts of Possession of Child Pornography, each count a third-degree felony punishable by two to ten years in prison or probation. The Grimes County District Attorney’s Office has filed a motion to stack the sentences.
According to the DA’s Office, Thomson was pulled over by a deputy on January 26, 2015, near Roans Prairie. During the stop, the deputy searched the vehicle after finding narcotics paraphernalia and found a duffle bag with items the deputy believed could be an “abduction kit”. According to authorities, there was a teenage girl in the vehicle with Thomson at the time of the stop.
The deputy found a cellphone inside the bag, which Thomson said he used for photo storage. He told the deputy the phone had no service, provided the pattern code for the lock screen and told the deputy to attempt to make a call, which the deputy did. According to the DA’s Office, after trying to end the call and return to the home screen, the deputy accidentally opened the photo gallery and saw child pornography.
After obtaining and executing a search warrant on the phone, authorities say they found approximately 4,000 images and videos of child pornography within the phone.
Thomson will be sentenced at a later date in 12th District Court. The DA’s Office plans to seek a prison sentence for Thomson.
