Just in time for the most romantic day of the year, Unity Theatre in Brenham will open the curtains this weekend on a romantic musical.
“Daddy Long Legs” begins its three-weekend run at Unity Theatre tomorrow (Thursday) night. A “rags to riches” tale of love featuring music and lyrics by Paul Gordon and book by John Caird, this story is based on the 1912 novel from Jean Webster, which later inspired the 1955 movie starring Fred Astaire.
“Daddy Long Legs” tells the story of Jerusha Abbot, the “oldest orphan in the John Grier Home” until a mysterious benefactor decides to send her to college to be educated as a writer. Abbot is required to write him a letter once a month, but she cannot know his identity, so she invents one for him: Daddy Long Legs. Although she knows he will never respond to her letters, she grows fonder of this elusive and kindly gentleman, while another relationship begins to develop in her life.
