FORMER WASHINGTON CO. LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS PROMOTED TO DPS POSITIONS
A pair of former Washington County law enforcement officials were recently promoted to positions within the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Former Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy, State Trooper, and Texas Ranger Lieutenant Robert “Wayne” Matthews was promoted December 1st to the position of Captain in the Texas Ranger Division, with his duty station listed as Austin.
Matthews was a Sheriff’s Deputy in Brenham for four years before his employment with DPS. He was a trooper in Austin County before being promoted to the DPS Narcotics Service in 2007. In 2008, Wayne was promoted to Texas Ranger with assignments in McAllen, Kerrville, and Uvalde. His 2019 promotion to Captain followed over two years as a Texas Ranger Lieutenant in Laredo.
Meanwhile, former Washington County State Trooper Cody Rogers was promoted late last year to the position of Texas Ranger and stationed in Beaumont. On March 1st, Ranger Rogers will be back in Brenham after transferring from Beaumont.

Rogers, a 2005 graduate of Texas A&M, was stationed in Brenham from 2008 to 2012. In 2013, he was promoted to the position of Special Agent in the Criminal Investigation Division and stationed in Bryan.
A promotion ceremony for Captain Matthews and Ranger Rogers was held January 7th at the DPS headquarters in Austin, with former State Trooper, Texas Ranger, and current Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak and his wife Vicki attending.
After the ceremony, all guests were welcomed into the Texas Ranger Division offices in Austin, where Texas Ranger Chief Chance Collins greeted guests and shared his congratulations to both men and their families.
