PUBLIC WARNED OF FALSE U.S. CENSUS TAKERS VISITING HOMES
The head of Washington County’s Complete Count Committee for the U.S. Census is warning the public about a group of fake census takers attempting to obtain personal information from homeowners.
In a notice sent to KWHI and to County Judge John Durrenberger, Ray Daugbjerg says there are people in Brenham visiting homes and falsely claiming they are affiliated with the U.S. Census, in an effort to gather personal information.
Daugbjerg says these people have nothing to do with the decennial census, and advises anyone who encounters them to not respond to them.
According to https://2020census.gov, census takers will not begin visiting homes that have not responded to the census until May. Those census takers will have an ID badge with their photograph.
Households will begin receiving official United States Census Bureau mail with detailed information on how to respond to the 2020 Census in mid-March. Census Day is April 1st.
