WASHINGTON CO. 4-H EARNS TOP AWARDS AT SA LIVESTOCK SHOW CONSUMER DECISION MAKING CONTEST

  

Twelve Consumer Decision Making Team members from Washington County 4-H participated in the 71st San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Consumer Decision Making Contest on Saturday, February 15, 2020.

Individuals from all over the state of Texas made up the list of 338 contestants who judged 6 classes and talked reasons on classes depending on age level.

The purpose of the Consumer Decision Making Contest is to gain skills in making decisions based on facts and to gain knowledge in consumer education by analyzing consumer situations.  Classes judged included athletic shoes, fitness trackers, wireless portable speakers, sunglasses, athletic wear and tablets. Washington County members are coached by County Extension Agents Hannah Krebs and Ally James.

Juniors competing (grades 3-5) out of 90 individuals and 29 teams were Mallory Winkelmann, Logan Boeker and Brazos Supak.

Intermediate 4-Hers (grades 6-8) competing were Alex Dallmeyer, Madison Moran, Dalton Winkelmann, Haylie Niemeyer and Audrey Schmidt.  The team of Dallmeyer, Moran, Winkelmann and Niemeyer earned 2nd place Intermediate Team honors with a team score of 965, just 6 points from the Champion team placing.   There were 128 intermediate 4-Hers and 43 teams competing.  Dallmeyer was also recognized as 1st Place High Point Individual in the Junior division, dropping only 7 points out of a possible 350 total score and earning a perfect score of 50 on his class of oral reasons.

Seniors (grades 9-12) competing were Clayton Boeker, Adrie Niemeyer, Rowdy Weidemann and Bethany Janner.  Boeker was 7th place Senior High Point Individual in the Senior division.  There were 120 seniors competing.  This team earned 13th place honors out of 40 teams.
