ROCKY CREEK PRESCRIBED BURN TODAY

Rocky Creek Fire Department, in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, is conducting a prescribed fire at Lake Somerville today.

The public is advised, they will see a lot of smoke in the area.

According to the Rock Creek Department’s Facebook page, prescribed fires are used to put fire back into the ecosystem, which thrives on fire to maintain its health. Use of fire will reduce the amount of native species growing in the area, reduce the threat of a catastrophic wildfire later in the year, as well as it provides excellent training opportunities for our firefighters.

These fires are planned with quite a few factors taken into consideration.
