BRAZOS VALLEY MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS OPENING DOWNTOWN BRENHAM OFFICE
Brazos Valley Mental Health and Wellness, LLC has announced an expansion to its mental health outreach efforts with the opening of a new office in downtown Brenham.
The organization announced Friday that the new office, located at 102 East Alamo Street, is opening today (Monday). The office will be initially staffed by Sheila Vaz, a Licensed Professional Counselor – Intern and 2001 Brenham graduate. She practices under the supervision of Roberta Sheffield, Licensed Professional Counselor – Supervisor.
Dr. Sherry Haferkamp-Watson, Clinical Director of Brazos Valley Mental Health and Wellness, said it did not take long to realize there was “a huge need for mental health services”, following the organization’s start four years ago in Bryan. She said many clients come from Brenham, Bellville, Burton, and Somerville, and felt it unreasonable to ask clients from those communities to have to travel over an hour one way to obtain services. She said the office in Brenham will “allow clients to access mental health resources closer to home”.
Brazos Valley Mental Health and Wellness specializes in trauma and trauma-related disorders as a whole. In the Brenham location, Vaz will address symptoms related to anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, self-harm, ADHD, Autism, family-separation, divorce, school-related issues, and eating disorders. While Vaz frequently works with children and teenagers, she also has experience in working with adults struggling with similar issues.
Vaz said she is committed to helping her clients “realize their potential, navigate life’s curveballs and challenges, and obtain skills that allow them to live a life worth living”. She said therapy is a challenging path that requires courage and commitment from clients, but assured she is equally committed to helping them move towards and achieve their goals.
