WASHINGTON CO. VOTERS ELECT TO KEEP INCUMBENTS KOESTER, TOWSLEE-CORBETT; GASKAMP NEW TAX ASSESSOR-COLLECTOR

Election results are in for the March primaries, and the makeup for the Washington County Commissioners Court will remain the same, at least for the time being.

Don Koester

In one of the two contested Republican races in Washington County, Don Koester, running as the incumbent for Washington County Commissioner of Precinct One, defeated challenger Rick Seeker in the primary election by a tally of 536 to 316.

Koester spoke with KWHI after he received word of his victory, thanking all those who supported him and assuring he will continue to do his best to serve the county.

Seeker said that, while Tuesday’s outcome may not have been ideal, he hopes his campaign raised questions about issues facing the county.

Koester will now face Democratic challenger Shirley Harris-Jackson in the November general election. Harris-Jackson was uncontested in the Democratic primary.

Cheryl Gaskamp

As for the Washington County Tax Assessor-Collector race, Cheryl Tesch Gaskamp defeated Daphne Kohring by a total of 2,781 to 1,937. Gaskamp will not have a Democratic opponent in November.

Gaskamp said this election experience has been amazing for her, and looks forward to serving constituents.

Kohring extended Gaskamp her best wishes as she takes office next year.

Reva Towslee-Corbett

Another race in the Republican primary that many voters had their eyes on was for the District Judge for the 335th Judicial District.  In that race, incumbent Reva Towslee-Corbett bested challenger Charles Carver with 10,891 votes, compared to Carver’s 6,579.  Out of the four counties voting, Bastrop County—Carver’s home county—was the only county Carver won.  Towslee-Corbett will not be opposed in November.

Towslee-Corbett said she is eternally grateful to the voters of Bastrop, Burleson, Lee, and Washington Counties for allowing her to continue doing the job she loves.

For the Democratic primary race for Texas’ 10th Congressional District, Tuesday night’s results will lead to a runoff election.  Mike Siegel received 21,051 votes—45.1 percent of the vote, followed by Pritesh Gandhi with 14,858—31.8 percent—and Shannon Hutcheson with 10,698—22.9 percent.

The runoff between Siegel and Gandhi will be held May 26th.  The winner of the primary runoff will advance to the general election in November against Republican incumbent Michael McCaul.
