STUDENTS TO SEE WASHINGTON CO. HISTORY UP CLOSE WITH LOCAL HISTORY DAY THURSDAY
Brenham ISD fourth graders today (Thursday) will experience history through the eyes of an early settler in Washington County.
The 8th Annual Local History Day takes place today in downtown Brenham and at other historic locations in the city and county. The annual event takes students on an all-day field trip to various spots in the area, where they will participate in interactive stations and learn more about the history of the community.
Some of the places students will visit today include the Giddings Stone Mansion, the Giddings Wilkin House Museum, the Brenham Fire Museum, and the Barnhill Center, where students will watch The Dawn of Washington County. Students will visit with costumed actors portraying Washington County’s forefathers, who will teach the history of each location and tell stories.
Students will also get to take part in a scavenger hunt, create a chalk mural in Alamo Alley, and write a letter from the perspective of an early settler. In addition, they will play 19th century games and listen to 19th century songs. A picnic lunch will be provided for all.
Brenham ISD seventh graders will participate in a similar event on March 19th.
