ROCKY CREEK VFD PERFORMING PRESCRIBED BURN SATURDAY AT LAKE SOMERVILLE

The Rocky Creek Volunteer Fire Department is conducting another prescribed burn at Lake Somerville this (Saturday) afternoon, in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Firefighters will be conducting the controlled burn between noon and 4 p.m. The public is advised that they will likely see significant amounts of smoke in the area.
A prescribed burn was also conducted last Saturday at the lake.
According to the Rocky Creek Volunteer Fire Department’s Facebook page, these burns help to restore the ecosystem which, according to the fire department, thrives on fire.
The burns also reduce the threat of a catastrophic wildfire later in the year, and provide training opportunities for firefighters throughout the region.
