SALES TAX REBATES UP HIGH FOR WASHINGTON CO., DOWN LOW FOR BURTON, MOSTLY UNCHANGED FOR BRENHAM

  

Local sales and tax distributions were all over the place in Washington County for March.

This month, the county received $237,142, up 42.8 percent from last March, when the county received $165,984.  So far in 2020, the county has received $785,235, down 2.8 percent from last year’s payment to date of $808,606.

Brenham’s March rebate was $529,917, up 0.4 percent from Brenham’s rebate last March of $527,565.  So far this year, the city has received $1,749,315, a 3.8 percent increase from a year ago, when it had received $1,683,934.

Meanwhile, Burton’s rebate this month was $5,707, down 23.8 percent from a year ago, when the city received $7,492.  Through the year so far, Burton has received $21,929, compared to the $21,953 it received through this point last year, a 0.1 percent decrease.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported that, for March, the state paid out $766.2 million in local sales tax allocations, up 7.7 percent from last March, and up 7.2 percent for the year at this point.
