BRENHAM, BURTON ISD TO CLOSE SCHOOL MARCH 16-20

Brenham and Burton ISD officials have made the decision to close schools next week, in response to growing concerns over the Novel Coronavirus.

In statements this (Friday) morning, the districts said all Brenham ISD and Burton ISD schools will be closed Monday through Friday, March 16-20.  The school closures affect all school activities including before and after school activities, all UIL athletic and extracurricular practices and competitions, and weekend events.

The districts in their statements say they have been actively monitoring the situation, and have remained in constant contact with health officials who have been providing guidance and recommendations.

The districts say they are acting “out of an abundance of caution to protect everyone’s health and wellbeing by postponing the return from spring break”.  They say the safety of students, staff, and families are a top priority.

Brenham ISD will provide a free drive-thru lunch at Alton Elementary School for all Brenham ISD students Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  District staff will deliver food to the vehicle; families will not need to exit their vehicle to receive the meals.  Food will be provided for all children ages 18 and under.  Children must be present in the car to receive the meal.

Staff members are asked to check their emails daily for critical work information.  An update will be sent out by next Friday, March 20th, to communicate further details about the reopening of Brenham ISD and Burton ISD schools.
