STUDENT PRACTICES FOR BRENHAM MAIFEST ON HOLD UNTIL BRENHAM ISD REOPENS CAMPUSES

Preparation for one of Texas’ oldest springtime traditions has seen a setback as local concerns over the novel Coronavirus escalate.
Coming with the announcement of Brenham ISD closing its campuses next week, Brenham Maifest practices will not resume until the campuses are reopened. The Brenham Maifest Association will follow the same closure schedule as Brenham ISD.
Brenham Maifest Association President Catherine Kenjura announced this (Friday) afternoon that the decision to participate in Maifest is voluntary, and each family should make a personal decision for what level of participation, if any, it will have in Maifest.
Kenjura said options are being explored for Facebook Live practices. Any performances will not include personal contact such as dances with hand-holding, high-fives, or similar acts. Maifest emphasizes following the guidelines set by the CDC.
Kenjura said meetings have been held with the Brenham Maifest Executive Committee and the families of the 2020 Maifest Royalty. She said the top priority of Maifest is “the health and safety of the children, their families, and Maifest volunteers”, adding that the community should not panic while making the best decisions possible for all those involved.
Kenjura said the Maifest Association will continue to communicate with those involved as the situation unfolds through email and social media.
