The Brenham Pet Adoption Center has named “Coco” as its Pet of the Week.

Coco is a pit bull mix, about two years old.  Brenham Animal Services staff say she is calm and quiet, loves to be loved on, and will be at her owner’s side wherever they go.

As a result of the developing COVID-19 situation, the Brenham Pet Adoption Center will be closed for visitors through Sunday, March 22nd.  Anyone interested in adopting is encouraged to look online at www.petfinder.com, and if they see a specific animal they would like to meet, contact Brenham Animal Services at 979-337-7351 for a meet and greet.

Brenham Animal Control will be responding to high priority and emergency calls only.  High priority/emergency calls include animal bites, injured or sick stray animals, cruelty and neglect complaints, and dangerous or aggressive animals.  Non-aggressive strays and nuisance complaints will not be responded to at this time.  If anyone sees a non-aggressive stray animal, they are asked to allow it to make its way home before picking it up and bringing it to the shelter.

Additionally, the shelter will be reducing the number of animals it takes in.  Non-emergency owner surrenders will not be taken at this time.  Anyone who is ill is asked to keep their pets at home whenever possible.

Pet owners are assured that domestic animals are not at risk or a risk to humans because of COVID-19.  They are asked to include their pets in their emergency plans by keeping extra food, a collar, and their pet’s vaccination history on hand.  They should also create an alternative shelter plan for their pet, should they become too sick to care for them.
