BRENHAM ISD SUSPENDING NORMAL SCHOOL OPERATIONS THROUGH APRIL 3RD
Brenham ISD has announced, in light of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, it will suspend normal school operations at least through Friday, April 3rd.
In its announcement this (Tuesday) afternoon, the district said it is unsure of when normal operations will resume. The district encourages parents to begin thinking of long-term plans in the event that it is closed for an extended period of time beyond April 3rd. A list of mobile-friendly instructional resources for parents and families is available on the Brenham ISD COVID-19 webpage.
Brenham ISD officials say the district’s curriculum and instruction team is working on remote learning plans for instruction, which will be shared as soon as they are finalized.
The announcement comes a day after the Brenham School Board met to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic. After the meeting, Brenham ISD Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson could not give an exact timetable of when classes would resume, but assured the district would be thorough and timely in its decision.
Brenham ISD will continue to provide free drive-thru boxed lunches and bagged breakfasts for all students during the closure. Meals can be picked up at Alton Elementary School from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday. The district is working on a plan to meet the needs of students and families who are without transportation or live in remote areas of the community.
All Brenham ISD staff will be paid during the time of the closure. Nonexempt employees—hourly time clock employees—will be paid for their regular hours, even though they are not required to be at work. This excludes tutors, substitutes, and employees paid under contracted services.
District officials say the decision to close schools through April 3rd was made based on the current reality of COVID-19 activity, and recommendations provided by local, state, and federal health agencies.
