BURTON SCHOOL BOARD HOLDS EMERGENCY MEETING WEDNESDAY

A handful of people came out for an emergency meeting of the Burton School Board Wednesday afternoon.  The meeting was held in the High School Auditorium and the public’s chairs were separated by 6 feet to insure that people stayed apart.  Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy reviewed what they know about the coronavirus and the District’s release earlier Wednesday. She explained that the school will remain closed through April 3rd, although that date will likely be extended.  She also said that lunch meals will be handed out beginning Thursday in the car line at the school:

Kennedy added that Thursday and Friday they will decide if meals need to be delivered to students in the district.  Teachers are busy setting up communication lines to the students, although the district will not be passing out their chrome book laptops to the students due to the risks involved.

Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Bryan Ruemke spoke to the group and emphasized that information about the virus changes hourly.  He said that it is inevitable that the county will have some positive cases and that the government’s biggest fear is that the healthcare system will be overwhelmed with cases.  He also stated that what the district is doing is a good start, but it’s not an excuse for large groups of students to get together or go visit grandma and grandpa.
